Bolting Specialist Qualification Program (BSQP)
The Bolting Specialist Qualification Program consists of 3 major pieces: the Courses, the Final Exam and the Hands-On Training and Skills Assessment
The Bolting Specialist Qualification Program is designed to train and evaluate a bolter’s ability to inspect, assemble, disassemble and tighten bolted joints in an effective and safe manner. Through courses and hands-on training, successful candidates will understand and demonstrate the principles and practices to safe bolted joint assembly as outlined in Appendix A of ASME PCC-1: Guidelines for Pressure Boundary Bolted Flange Joint Assembly.
The program consists of four courses and a one-day instructor-led practical learning session. Candidates who successfully complete the courses and pass the final examination as well as the hands-on instructor's evaluation will receive the ASME Certificate for the Qualified Bolting Specialist.*
Mechanical Joint Integrity (Bolting) Training
The ECITB in collaboration with Step Change in Safety has introduced a method of training and validating skills in the specialist critical bolting area. Approved training courses derived from the new ECITB Mechanical Joint Integrity technical training standards cover isolations, dismantling techniques, inspection of components, alignment techniques and clamp connectors as well as assembly and tightening techniques in specialist critical bolting.
The technical training standards and 4 Stage Mechanical Joint Integrity Training and Competency Model are provided below:
MJI10 - Hand Torque Bolted Connections - Dismantle, prepare and secure hand torque bolted connections.
MJI18 - Hydraulically Tension Bolted Connections - Dismantling, assemble and tension bolted connections using hydraulic tensioning equipment.
MJI19 - Dismantling, Assembling and Tightening Bolted Connections - Dismantle, assemble and tighten bolted connections using powered torque equipment.
